What will fit under my stairs?
However hard you try, the space under your stairs often ends up difficult to keep tidy,
or if currently boxed in, difficult to access and wastes valuable space.
NOOK designs bespoke, made to measure furniture,
to accommodate your specific requirements.
No matter what angle your staircase we individually manufacture furniture, storage,
seating or display spaces to fit perfectly under your stairs.
Creating space you did not know you had,
or did not know what to do with!
All our recent customers shown below have agreed to allow photographs of the completed project to be used on our web site
and give a short, honest quote about the service and quality of our work.
Mr & Mrs D. from Blaydon, wanted to use all the available space under their staircase.
Two large deep angled pull outs were installed along with two deep rectangular drawers.
Simple drawer fronts with a 6mm pencil round to edges were finished in Crown Barley White.
To add to the sleek look the drawers open with a touch, needing no handles (also safer for the children).
The existing tall under-stairs cupboard was opened up, again making good use of all the available space, with a long pull out hanging rail and angled high shelf above, with shoe storage below.
"Delighted. Great service from start to finish. Beautiful finish and huge storage, the touch opening drawers are awesome, thanks to Rhona for suggesting and Rick and Alan for making such a good job installing.
We are planning an extension next year and will be using NOOK Design again for the fit out."
James & Rachel
Mrs L from Wideopen is involved in the hospitality business and very busy in the development of catering solutions.
Her work spills over into her home and the cupboard underneath her staircase was completely full of equipment
and ingredients but almost impossible to get to.
She wanted to update the ‘look’ of her hallway with a sleeker and more contemporary style as well as having much easier access.
NOOK Design removed the existing wall beneath the staircase,
fitted bespoke triangular carcasses using all of the available space.
At the higher end of the staircase a wall in cupboard was fitted with
deep angled shelves for larger pieces of cooking and baking equipment,
in the triangular sections deep pull-out wire baskets with a
25kg load were fitted for smaller items.
“I'm delighted with my new storage.
It honestly looks like it's always been there.
The boys have been exceptional and the attention
to detail is perfect. "
Many thanks Gail
Mrs. F from Newcastle home is an immaculate example of good taste and charm.
A self admitting very fussy lady, she wanted more space for her large collection of shoes fitted into a small under stair alcove. The two triangular pull out drawers in solid oak now hold up to thirty pairs and the deep third drawer higher boots.
Finished in ivory to match and blend with the staircase.
“Delighted! Can't wait to show it to my friends,
my husband wants to know what else we can get NOOK design to do for us.”
Mrs T. from Gosforth did not have a downstairs toilet, and with two young children wanted to
transform the coal-bunker under the stairs, accessed from the garage,
into a luxury cloakroom with a new entrance from the kitchen.
“With NOOK Designs vision and determination they made the impossible, possible.
What an amazing use of space!
With outstanding communication, customer service & immaculate time,
keeping the whole experience was remarkably stress free.”
Mr W. from Darras Hall, is an International banker who spends too much of his life in hotels around the globe.
Relocating back to the UK from Canada,
the hall and staircase with marble floor tiles,
zebra skin carpet and stainless steel stairs
in his new home was much too corporate
and reminiscent of a hotel lobby.
Mrs W wanted a homely feel, giving family
and friends an attractive and more
comfortable entrance to the house,
as well as some practical storage.
NOOK Design were commissioned to remove the existing staircase and re-model the area, this time in solid oak with glass
and a hall storage area with hanging, drawers, pull out shoe racks and shelves, a small seat and a recess for a special
piece of Canadian indigenous art, along with an oak floor and warmer decoration.
“We are absolutely delighted with our new Staircase and under stairs Cloakroom designed and installed by Nook.
It is stunning.
The whole process of working with them was great from the quote and design, where they beat out some noted competitors, to the build where their attention to detail and quality of finish was first rate.
Most importantly of all they were great to work with as people and they have a love for what they do which is translated into a top quality end product.
We love what they have done for us, and would work with them again.
In fact, We were so pleased we recommended them to family and friends who have also now taken them on.”
Mrs. L from Blaydon, needed much more cupboard space, she wanted hidden coat hanging
and everyday shoe storage, as well as somewhere for her grandchildren's toys for when they visit.
Nook Design opened up the unused space under the staircase installed a large pull out drawer for toys,
deep storage cupboards and a pull out coat rail and pull out shoe rack.
“It looks fantastic, far better than I had even thought.
The care of the fitters was really good and the space created quiet amazing.”
When Mrs B. From Corbridge downsized her home she needed to make use of every nook and cranny.
Nook design installed a large solid oak drawer with shelf to match the existing decor,
with drawer runners that when fully extended can support 65Kg!
‘Professionalism from beginning to end,
from initial survey, fitting and completion all done in the suggested timescale with as little disruption as possible.’
Mr T from Riding Mill simply needed more storage and easier access to the wasted space under the stairs. NOOK Design installed three angled cupboards following exactly the line of the staircase and painted in gloss white to blend in with the existing decoration. Fitted with extra deep shelves the previously wasted area is now fully utilised.
“Perfect job, my thanks”
Mr S. from Prudhoe wanted as much storage as possible. The current small cupboard under the stairs was difficult to access, and with small children, she needed as much easily accessible space as possible.
Not wanting handles sticking into the hallway we installed six touch opening doors.
Giving a huge amount of additional storage for shoes, school bags, hats & coats.
“Delighted, all my neighbours now want the same!"
Mrs J. From Jesmond, had a problem under her staircase.
It was hardy used apart from to store old paint cans, accessed via a tiny low doorway,
it was a complete waste of valuable space.
Not helped by the electric and gas meters and fuse board which took up a
large part of any available storage.
Looking to completely open out the area considerably increasing the cupboard space
Mrs J. wanted oak veneer interiors with the fuse board neatly boxed in giving much easier access, and a sleek exterior look with touch opening doors to compliment the rest of her lovely hallway again in an oiled oak veneer.
As part of a staircase refurbishment Claire & Will from Hexham, wanted to make better use of the space beneath for shoe storage. Two angled and one traditional birch ply drawers were installed with dove tail joints for strength and fully extendable 65kg drawer runners. Giving enough space for about thirty pairs of shoes, painted in Farrow & Ball Cornforth White to match the other doors in the hallway also refurbished by NOOK Design.
“We didn’t want to put anything into the drawers because they were so perfect, the detailing is something Will and I were majorly impressed by.”
Unusually for NOOK Design, this understaircase solution in Hexham was on the first floor, under the staircase leading up to the attic. Giving much needed extra storage space for the bedrooms and bathroom with two huge angled pull out drawers for towels and three extra clothes drawers.
Finished in Little Greene - Linnet 89, with pewter cup handles.
"Wonderful - your team was super efficient. The flowers were a lovely touch, thank you."
